Shag is the only member of the band to have a "formal" musical education.

He's played guitar for over ten years and along the way has picked up quite a few other instruments.

Before joining an earlier version of Penyon he played in various bands in almost every style of music, he still occasionally plays solo acoustic gigs.

Although he is one of the younger members of the band, he has heaps of experience in the Melbourne music scene and is a qualified teacher.
